Carrollton started as a single 1842 trading post where Denton Creek meets the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, and today it’s one of the only DFW cities that still sits across three different counties at once — a split that shows up in everything from school districts to its rugs.

Jared Ford built that trading post at the creek-and-river confluence, and in 1844 settlers who had come from Carrollton, Illinois gave the growing community its name. For decades Carrollton stayed a farming town, shipping livestock, cotton, and grain once the Dallas–Wichita Railroad reached nearby Trinity Mills in 1878 and the St. Louis Southwestern “Cotton Belt” line crossed it in 1888. The population barely topped 500 by 1920. Then Dallas’s postwar growth caught up with it, and by the 2020 census Carrollton held 133,434 residents, spread across Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties.

Quick answer: Carrollton’s rugs come from three different county tax rolls and school districts, a mix of 1960s-80s suburban homes and newer builds near the city’s edges, and the same clay-heavy North Texas soil as the rest of the Metroplex. We offer free pickup and delivery across all of Carrollton, wash every rug at our dedicated facility, and return it in about 10 business days.

A city split three ways

Most DFW suburbs sit cleanly inside one county. Carrollton doesn’t — its borders run through Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties, a quirk of how the railroad-era town grew outward in different directions before any one county line could contain it. In practice, that rarely changes how we clean a rug, but it’s a useful reminder that “Carrollton” covers a genuinely wide mix of neighborhoods and housing eras.

From cotton depot to Metroplex suburb

Carrollton’s population stayed under a thousand for most of its first century, then grew well past 100,000 as Dallas’s suburban ring expanded north and west through the late 20th century. That growth pattern means a lot of the city’s rugs are decades-old pieces bought during the 1970s-90s suburban boom, now due for their first real facility wash in years.

Clay soil and creek-side humidity

Sitting where Denton Creek meets the Elm Fork gives parts of Carrollton the same fine, sticky clay dust that works into rug fibers across North Texas. Our guide to what clay-soil dust does to a rug explains why a quick vacuum never gets it all out.

  • Spring: Creek-area storms track mud and clay onto entry rugs.
  • Summer: Dry heat and AC cycling pull moisture out of natural-fiber rugs, making them brittle at the edges.
  • Fall: Leaf litter and dust get walked in as windows close for the season.
  • Winter: Holiday hosting and heating-season dry air both load up living and dining room rugs.

Tip: If your rug has been in the same spot since the 1980s or 90s, it’s probably overdue. A professional wash now is cheaper than replacing a rug that’s finally worn through.

Pickup and delivery across Carrollton

Our free pickup and delivery service covers all three of Carrollton’s counties — you don’t need to know which side of a county line your home falls on. We also handle pet odor removal for households with dogs or cats.

How often Carrollton households should clean rugs

Every 12 to 18 months works for most homes. Older rugs that haven’t been professionally washed since they were purchased should move to the front of the line.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer free pickup and delivery in Carrollton?

Yes, throughout the entire city, regardless of which county a given address falls in.

Does it matter which county my home is in?

No. Our process and pricing are the same no matter which of the three counties your Carrollton address sits in.

Why is my rug so gritty even though I vacuum weekly?

Fine clay dust settles at the base of the pile, below where a household vacuum reaches. A facility wash removes it.

I inherited an older wool rug — is it safe to clean?

In almost every case, yes. We test for dye stability and identify the fiber before choosing a method.

How long will my rug be gone?

Typically about 10 business days, including a full, controlled dry.

What if my rug has pet odor?

We check with a blacklight and treat urine in the fibers, not just the surface.

Will I know the price before you start?

Yes. Pricing is confirmed upfront by size, fiber, and condition.
